  • ED 212 Introduction to Christian Education 3 hrs A course which deals with the principles underlying Christian education. Topics include: Philosophy of Christian Education, Origins of Christian Education, Methods of Teaching, The Christian Teacher and Educational Institutions of the Christian Church. REQUIRED

  • ED 311 Classroom Observation I 1 hr A phase of practical training in Christian education when the student will observe at several different grade levels in Penn View Christian Academy. This will give the student the feel of the classroom in action and the opportunity to observe different types of children and various teaching methods. REQUIRED

  • ED 312 Classroom Observation II 1 hr A phase of practical training in Christian education when the student will observe at several different grade levels in area Christian schools. REQUIRED

  • ED 313 Classroom Observation III 1 hr A phase of practical training in Christian education when the student will observe at several different grade levels in the area public school systems. REQUIRED

  • ED 314 Classroom Observation IV 1 hr A continuation of practical training in Christian education when the student will become an aide to a teacher in Penn View Christian Academy in the age group corresponding to his/her major. REQUIRED

  • ED 315 Classroom Observation V 1 hr An overview of implementing individualized curriculum. REQUIRED

  • ED 322 Teaching Methods for the Classroom 3 hrs A study of the presentation of subject matter, curriculum planning, various facets of classroom management, teaching aids and resource materials, and strategies of instruction. REQUIRED

  • ED 331 The Teaching of Bible 3 hrs A study of creative methods of instruction in Bible content and Christian principle. Attention is given to integrating Bible concepts in every subject as well as methods of personal Bible study. REQUIRED

  • ED 332 Christian Education Administration 3 hrs A study of the objectives, organizations, administration, curricula and equipment of the total education program of the local church with emphasis upon promotion and expansion involving spiritual principles and methods. Prerequisite: ED 212. ELECTIVE

  • ED 342 The Teaching of Reading 3 hrs A study of the psychological and physiological aspects of reading and the recognized theories and materials of reading education in the elementary grades. Special emphasis is given to methods of group and individual instruction for reading proficiency. REQUIRED

  • ED 351 The Teaching of Math 3 hrs A study of the materials and methods used to teach general mathematics, business mathematics, metric system, elementary algebra, and elementary geometry. REQUIRED

  • ED 352 The Teaching of Language Arts 3 hrs An examination of the content and goals for teaching oral and written communication in the English language. Includes methods for teaching grammar, handwriting, spelling, oral communication, written composition, literature, and poetry. REQUIRED

  • ED 361 The Teaching of Science 3 hrs A survey of scientific study and the methods of teaching science in the classroom. REQUIRED

  • ED 362 The Teaching of Social Studies 3 hrs A study of effective methods and materials used to teach social studies in the classroom. Particular emphasis is given to the study of history, geography, and government with an integration of current events. REQUIRED

  • ED 411 Evaluation Techniques & Lesson Planning 3 hrs The major emphasis of the course in the development, function, construction, and interpretation of various techniques in testing and pupil evaluation. Some time is devoted to the development and implementation of lesson plans for the classroom situation. REQUIRED

  • ED 422 Student Teaching 12 hrs Includes lesson planning, preparation, presentation, and testing under the supervision of an experienced teacher in a real classroom situation. This is an extensive project involving a full semester of work. Prerequisites: ED 310, ED 322, ED 411. REQUIRED
